Developing and teaching the materials brought much joy during my teaching career. I never worked harder in my life. I starting typing the materials on those stinky blue ditto masters, typing new updated materials each year. But with the Apple ][e computer in 1980, one only needed time to type desired additions and changes. The new materials were then ready to print.
The classroom environment changed dramatically. The majority of the time was spent with groups of a maximum of four students per group. Time was spent discussing the questions and problems they had. From time to time, the whole class would be brought together for discussion of difficult concepts and to show numerous PSSC films. I did have a room off the main classroom where a film could be shown to a couple of groups. Thus the other students would not be disturbed by the showing of the film. The laboratory was an integral part of the program. The day before a group had to request materials for a specific lab. This allowed me to gather the items and have them ready at the beginning of next days class.
